Bats are often found roosting behind shutters, under loose siding or roof shingles of all types. 8. Bats are opportunists, and will take advantage of any natural or man made opening to gain access to any structure. 9. Bats are not known to chew or dig in a structure but often will follow damage by other wildlife such as raccoons, possums, squirrels or birds. Bats will wiggle their way into any space even smaller then a US dime. Infact, as a rule if a ballpoint bic pen can be inserted into a hole (1/4 inch or greater bats can gain access into your structure. 10. Bats travel nightly very long distances and simply trapping them or using nets without having your home sealed up often results in a re-occurance of bats and usually the same colony. 11. There are no special repellants or electronic devices that actually work to remove bats but many companies offer these devices for sale on the internet or even use them as the solution to a bat problem. Bottom line these to date have all resulted in scams and wasted money. Buyer Beware. 12. There are no special powders that can be applied in your attic to remove bat gauno and protect your family from histoplasmosis a fungal disease often associated with their droppings. If you have bat guano in your attic never enter the attic with out a properly fitted protective mask rated for bat guano droppings. 13 . Many bat species have either one or two pups a year. A true bat control professional will never remove a bat colony form your home with out checking the age of the pups before doing a bat exclusion. Pushing aprofessional and findsing an inexperinced , and unknowledgable one will result in large pockets of dead decay meat in your walls and ceilings since young bats can not fly and will crawl deeper in your home in search of their mothers and die. Imagine 5 pounds of ground beef stuck in your walls and stinking worse then anything you can imagine and then having to pay to have that removed too. |
